Banner design of the inaugural exhibits for the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center. Multiple site visits were conducted to plan, develop and lead the hardware installation of permanent frames that would showcase exterior building banners for the museum's rotating exhibits. The grand opening exhibits were experienced and researched to inspire the design for each banner.
Anne Frank: A History for Today
This exhibit tells Anne Frank's story against the backdrop of the Holocaust and World War II. Through Frank family photographs and historical information, it illustrates the devastating consequences that political decisions and individual choices had on persecuted people.
Two concepts were presented to the museum. I focused on Anne's most defining features: her unmistakeable likeness and her handwritten script that informed the world.
Saving the Little Brown Monkey
Millions have grown up with Curious George, but few know his creators' incredible history. The True Wartime Escape of Margret and H.A. Rey documents the couple’s flight from Nazi occupied Paris and features the manuscripts and illustrations that would mature into one of the world's most beloved children's book characters.
Curious George books are immediately recognizable for their bright yellow covers, isolated illustrations and playful typography. I used these elements to style the exhibit banner as a book cover. The first concept uses an unpublished sketch of H.A. Rey's documenting their journey to America. The second concept is a custom illustration depicting the mischievous nature of George and how it helped him flee the Nazi invasion of Paris.
